Back in March, wide receiver Austin Bennett thought his recruiting process was all wrapped up. He had committed to the University of Arkansas, then came the termination of head coach Bobby Patrino.
He decided to decommit from the Razorbacks and look at all of his options. One of the teams that has stayed in pursuit of landing the talent pass catcher, WVU.
Bennet is a 6 foot, 175 pound receiver from Manvel High School in Manvel, Tx. He is currently listed as a 3* recruit by Scout and Rivals.
He committed to the Hogs back in March, then when Bobby Patrino was firedin April, he decided to look around.
"My family and I talked and we decided I should decommit from Arkansas," Manvel, Texas wide receiver Austin Bennett said. "I will be checking out other places like West Virginia and TCU."
Austin is a two-way standout that is likely going to end up as a slot receiver/return specialist, but he also has significant experience as a corner/nickel on defense. He is undersized, lean and wiry, but also very quick and shifty. He has outstanding feet and is elusive.
He plans to take trips this summer to WVU, TCU, and Arkansas.
Even though he de-commited from Arkansas, a return isn't out of the question.
The Hogs are still very much in the mix for Austin, whose older brother Ashton Bennett has plans to walk-on at Fayetteville this summer.
Last season he had 43 catches for 785 yards and 8 touchdowns.
Bennett is looking for a fast paced system, but more importantly, one that's family oriented. Being away from home for the first time can be rough, so he wants to get a feel for the coaching staff and the Morgantown environment.
Shannon Dawson is in charge of leading Austin's recruitment.
He currently has offers from Arkansas, TCU, Mississippi, and Mississippi State to name a few.
Bennett plans make a decision by the end of summer.
