West Virginia picked up their seventh verbal commitment on Monday night, as in-state fullback Elijah Wellman (Spring Valley HS, WV) chose the Mountaineers.
Wellman, who will play fullback, chose the Mountaineers over offers from Marshall, Bowling Green, Ohio and Charlotte. He will be the only fullback in the 2013 recruiting class.
While some may consider his position non scholarship worthy, the West Virginia coaches clearly disagreed. After camping at WVU earlier this month Wellman impressed with his agility, footwork and blocking ability.
The West Virginia offer was something he had been hoping for, and that came just after impressing at the camp. After taking a day to think over the decision, Wellman decided to finally commit to the Mountaineers.
Wellman, 6-foot-3, 235 pounds is rated a 2-star prospect by Scout.com and the 52nd best middle linebacker in the country. He hasn't been evaluated by a recruiting service as a fullback.
