imagesCAMYX3BPWest Virginia University picked up its 5th verbal committment of the 2013 class when 4-star linebacker Darrien Howard made the call for the Mountaineers.

Howard had been gaining interest from schools aross the country, but decided the Big 12 would be his conference of choice.

Howard is a 6 foot 2, 250 middle linebacker for his Dayton (OH) Chaminade-Julienne squad, where he also plays fullback.

Even with the interest he was getting and the offers he has received, Morgantown was a perfect fit for Howard.

"I fell in love with them on a visit," Howard said. "I didn't want to make a premature decision… I wanted to wait it out a little bit. I honestly thought it wasn't going to be as soon as it would be right now, but I've been thinking about it and dreaming about it and I feel it is the right thing to do. I feel more comfortable there than I feel anywhere else."

He made the trip for the Gold-Blue Game, and the attention he received from the fans stood out.

imagesCAARYLVE"I went up to their spring game and the family environment there - I felt so welcome," Howard said. "I talked to a couple of the players and when I went there I felt it. Then, the fan base is amazing. I went to a gas station after the game and they saw that I was a recruit and I was getting so much love just being a recruit."

He had a excellent junior season totaling 154 tackles, 5 sacks, and 3 interceptions.

Howard looks to continue at the linebacker spot, and has his eye on the opportunity to play early.

"I'm going to be playing linebacker and if there is an opportunity to play early, I'll take it," Howard said.

He has offers from Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, N.C. State to name a few. Howard also had interest from Ohio State.
